Our first day was a busy one, having driven through the night to arrive at dawn to our surf camp. The area was looking beautiful as always, set amongst the pine trees on the edge of the forest.

Down at the beach it was equally inviting – the surf looked good and we got straight in for a lovely surf in clean 2ft waves. The weather was really hot and sunny! Fantastic!

We met up with Ben Skinner and friends down on the beach, and heard stories about all the longboards snapped during the recent competition!

Later we set up camp with all the tents and marquee in place, and headed down to the beach for a last look at the sea. The sunset was amazing; reds and oranges streaked the sky as the sun disappeared over the horizon.

Back at camp we relaxed and planned tomorrow. We decided to get up early and hopefully get on it. As we headed to bed we spotted a red squirrel -  they are quite rare! It bodes well – looks like the trip will be filled with amazing sights and experiences. All in all a great start to our France 2008 adventure!
