SURF HOLIDAYS TO FRANCE & SOUTH AFRICA
Mysteries working
We have a full house now with all the guests arrived and settled in. We’ve got a good swell but the wind has been too strong for a really good surf, though everyone had a good time on the dawny this morning at Mysteries which is working this year again. The water is cooler than expected, a shortie is not recommended just yet.
Dan’s bike got its first outing into town with Jess at the helm. She sped into town despite the front tyre having a slow puncture, overtaking locals and slow-walking surfers at speed.
The newbies have cleared the Uniprix of all drinkable liquids pretty much as soon as they got here and are taking some time to re-hydrate. A good night was had by all.
This evening we’ll chill with some food on the terrace, and get up early for another dawny, which we expect to be 2ft and clean, followed by some serious sunbathing.

Surfing virgin asks “What is a dawny” ?
Dawny is how some surfers refer to getting up early, dawn is when conditions for surfing are best, before anyone else is in the water, and before the wind goes onshore messing up the clean wave faces. I think the phrase dawnee probably originated in Australia and should be followed by ‘mate’ when in Oz.
