ASP World Tour
What’s next on the ASP World Tour…?
0Now that the Boardmasters held at Fistral Beach in Newquay, has finished what’s on the world surfing agenda for British surfers and those around the world?
Well 2 British longboarders did really well at the Boardmasters – Ben Skinner, who came second to the Fenchman Antonio Delpero in the longboarding and is now 17th place (along with a lot of others, the rankings contain lots of joint placements at the moment – see the ASP website for full placings) and Adam Griffiths, who came runner up, are now though to the next ASP Longboard World Tour event in Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka from August 30th to September 4th, 2011.
In the mens shortboarding at Newquay Romain Cloitre won the event after defeating Mitch Coleborn. The ASP world rankings now look like this -
- Joel Parkinson (AUS)
- Jordy Smith (ZAF)
- Adriano De Souza (BRA)
- Mick Fanning (AUS)
- Taj Burrow (AUS)
- Kelly Slater (USA)
- Michel Bourez (PYF)
- Bede Durbridge (AUS)
- Josh Kerr Joint (AUS) 9th place with Owen Wright (AUS)
The next event is in Teahupoo,Taiarapu, French Polynesia from the 20th to 31st August 2011 with $425,000. The swell forecast is looking good for the first week of the waiting period so the event might start straight away. Some more good surfing to watch at the Billabong Pro Tahiti website and read about all the rankings and events at www.aspworldtour.com
Last men standing at the Boardmasters
0Well done to Glen Hall from Ireland as he has made it though to the the last 16 of the WQS Boardmasters men’s main event. The long board final is tomorrow and with 2 British surfers in the final it should be great fun to watch. Ben Skinner and Adam Griffiths will battle it out against French surfers. Watch it live at Fistral Beach, Newquay, tomorrow here
British surfers in semi finals at Boardmasters
0Well done to Ben Skinner and Adam Griffiths, our local lads, who made it through to the semi-finals of the long board event at the Boardmasters, WQS, ASP event. Adam is a Newquay boy and Ben, although originally from the Channel Islands, has been in Newquay for as long as we can remember.
The finals will be held later in the week, most probably at the weekend. Good luck to them both!!
Jordy Smith wins on home surf at Jeffrey’s Bay
0Jordy Smith, only 23, and already a legend, from South Africa, has won the 2011 Billabong Pro Jeffrey’s Bay. He beat Mick Fanning in a wave to wave surf-off in front of a friendly & rowdy home crowd. The conditions were not ideal, but as it was the last day of the contest they had to proceed. To be expected, the world’s top surfers managed to make the most of it and select the best of the waves, and still shredded like it was 5ft and clean!
Joel Parkinson has now taken the lead from Adriano de Souza who had a knee injury less than 2 weeks before the contest, which probably contributed to him being knocked out in the early rounds. The top ranked surfers are now as follows:
ASP WORLD TITLE TOP 10
1. Joel Parkinson (AUS) 25700 pts
2. Jordy Smith (ZAF) 24750 pts
3. Adriano de Souza (BRA) 22250 pts
4. Mick Fanning (AUS) 19500 pts
5. Taj Burrow (AUS) 18250 pts
6. Kelly Slater (USA) 16950 pts
7. Michel Bourez (PYF) 16000
8. Bede Durbidge (AUS) 15000
9. Josh Kerr (AUS) 13900 pts
9. Owen Wright (AUS) 13900 pts
The next round is in Teahupoo, Tahiti on the 20th to 31st August. Expect big waves!!!!!!!
