Bank Holiday Surf Comp at Watergate Bay

The English Surfing Federation will hold the 2012 English Surfing Championships at Watergate Bay over the May Bank Holiday- 5th – 7th May. The proposed categories are; Open – Ladies – Longboard – Ladies Longboard – Senior – Masters – Vets. The Junior Championship will held over a series of 3 contests, this will also serve as a qualifying series for the Euro Juniors to be held in France in the Autumn of 2012.

Last men standing at the Boardmasters

Well done to Glen Hall from Ireland as he has made it though to the the last 16 of the WQS Boardmasters men’s main event. The long board final is tomorrow and with 2 British surfers in the final it should be great fun to watch. Ben Skinner and Adam Griffiths will battle it out against French surfers. Watch it live at Fistral Beach, Newquay, tomorrow here

British surfers in semi finals at Boardmasters

Well done to Ben Skinner and Adam Griffiths, our local lads, who made it through to the semi-finals of the long board event at the Boardmasters, WQS, ASP event. Adam is a Newquay boy and Ben, although originally from the Channel Islands, has been in Newquay for as long as we can remember.
The finals will be held later in the week, most probably at the weekend. Good luck to them both!!

Extreme Academy English National Surfing Championships 2011

The 2011 Extreme Academy English National Surfing Championships will run at Watergate Bay from the 30th April to the 2nd May. This one-day event will see surfers from all over England, as well as our local talented bunch battle it out for the National Titles

Surfers will contest in three divisions; Open, Ladies and Longboard, and organisers will choose the best day of the 3 over the weekend to hold the competition. The contest will form the basis on which the selection will be made for the English surfing team to compete in the European Surfing Championships in Ireland in September.

Jayce Robinson (Open), Ben Skinner (Longboard) and Sarah Beardmore (Ladies) will be defending their 2010 titles at Watergate Bay. St Ives surfer Jayce Robinson became one of the youngest ever English champions, aged just 20.

Very windy in Cornwall!

It’s been really windy the last few days and the surf has been huge! High tides across North Cornwall have been reaching right up to the shore. The Mermaid Pub at Porth and even the Beach Hut cafe at Watergate Bay have seen the sea up close and personal!
Forecasts are improving though with offshore winds Tue Wed so fingers crossed for some fun surfing in Newquay.

Surf forecast looking great

It’s looking good for the coming week surfing in Newquay at long last! It’s been a dire lack of surf this winter so far, so we can’t wait for a great run of surf.

It’s been so cold in the surf we are often reminiscing about our surfing holidays and what fun we had in Seignosse, South West France on our France surf holiday last year. Warm seas and a fun time….roll on next year!

We are also excited about our new surfing holiday to Jeffrey’s Bay South Africa, planned for May 2012.

Happy Surfing Christmas

It was small and clean surf yesterday for Christmas in Newquay. The new swell that was predicted found its way to Newquay, though at lunchtime it wasn’t as organised as we’d hoped. We still had a really fun surf though and are looking forward to today as it’s looking rather special! The swell has come in and its gonna be spesh!

The surf forecast for Christmas Day is looking awesome! Clean 1-2 ft offshore with an 18 second wave period!! Building all day and BIG on Boxing day! What a brilliant Christmas present!

On-shore winds mark start of colder weather

Last night the winds started and have increased throughout the day. It’s very cold in the wind, and the on-shore direction means no surfing on the north coast of Cornwall today! It’s just started to rain too!

If you want better surfing conditions than this its usually a good idea to book a surfing holiday to a quality surf break abroad. Our surfing holidays visit the best places to surf at the most consistent time of year. We know the locations well, and under what conditions each spot works best. Add the element of sunny weather and it’s the perfect sporting holiday!

So come along this September (2011) on our France surf holiday, or the following May (2012) on our South Africa surfing holiday to Jeffrey’s Bay.

Possible wave Wed

We’ve had a really bad run of flat surf here on the North Coast of Cornwall. Normally the winter swells are so big we are looking for a sheltered spot go surfing! Often looking at South coast spots.

This winter the prolonged cold weather and high pressure systems are sat in the way of any low pressure systems coming down to the UK and bringing swell too. It’s unclear how long this will continue but with the next cold spell predicted from Thurs night it does not look like changing for the forseeable future.

There may be the chance of a wave on Wed according to the charts, fingers crossed!

On our surfing holidays we visit locations where the surf has been more consistent than here on the Cornish coast. We visit Seignosse in South West France every September and Jeffrey’s Bay South Africa from May 2012.
