Important information for travellers to France
Passports
Passport and visa requirements – If your passport describes you as a British Citizen or British Subject with Right of Abode in the United Kingdom, you will not need a visa to enter France. Other British passport holders should confirm the current entry requirements with their nearest French Diplomatic mission.
Please note that most countries expect that you have at least 6 months validity on your passport from the date you return to the UK. If you are in doubt about your passport validity, check with the French Embassy.
Its a good idea to take a photocopy of the back page of your passport (showing your photo and all the details) and any visa you are using, and take this with you on holiday in case your passport is lost or stolen. Having those details will help you prove your identity.
Obtaining a passport – Be aware that if you need to obtain a new passport you should allow at least 6 weeks during the summer months when the passport office can be very busy. Information about getting a passport can be found at the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) website.
