ITINERARY
Each day our surf tour guides find the best place to surf, and take you there. We teach you in a variety of ways – using video-analysis for surf coaching, as well as one-to-one coaching in and out of the surf. We maintain a relaxed, friendly and sociable atmosphere at out surf camp with the perfect balance of surfing/activites and rest time.
As surfing is weather-dependent there is no set itinerary, but we do have a pattern to each day. For breakfast you can choose continental or cooked, with British tea, coffee and juice. If the conditions are right we will surf in the morning. Then we may take a trip out together and aim to surf more later that day, depening on the surfing conditions. Evenings can be spent at the guesthouse or eating out in one of the many cafes locally. There is a cinema in Jeffrey’s Bay, and several surf bars and cafes nearby. There are plenty of other sporting and relaxing activites you can do locally, and if you’d like to discover more of South Africa we can advise you.
The surf camp is open from 27th April to 12th May 2013 inclusive. Our holidays usually run from weekend to weekend for 7 or 14 nights, but we would be happy to accommodate you for any length of stay, so please contact us for a quote. We travel to South Africa in April/May because we consider it to be the best time of year to ensure consistent, clean surf, pleasant water temperatures (around 18C) and typically mostly warm sunny days.
We have advice on what to pack on your surfing holiday.
Surfing
The reason we travel all the way to Jeffrey’s Bay is that the surf just so good! The waves at ‘Point’ (where we surf most of the time) are absolutely the best for learning and improving your surfing. They are nice and mellow, and peel for 200m plus, giving you time to practise your surfing turns and techniques. It’s an uncrowded, friendly place to surf, with many more surf breaks further along the Bay.
Beginners – We will familiarise you with everything you need to know to start surfing; surfing equipment, ocean awareness and safety, and surfing techniques. As you progress we tailor our coaching to your needs and help your surfing improve.
Improvers – Our expert surf coaches have years of surfing knowledege and experience to share. Whether its learning new or complex manoeuvres, or any other aspect of surfing, we can help you progress to the next level, and excel at surfing.
The surf here really is world-famous….. These South African waves became legendary amongst the surfing community as the home of the ‘perfect wave’ by the film Endless Summer. The film follows 2 surfers travelling the world in search of the perfect wave. After a long search they find it in South Africa at Cape St Francis, near to Jeffrey’s Bay. In the second film they return to South Africa and find Jeffrey’s Bay, where the waves are even more superior to the waves in the first film!
Our guest house overlooks the best waves in the Bay (West to East) which are:
1. Dolphin beach – this beach break has a sand bottom and nice mellow peaks.
2. Kitchen windows – this is mellow lefts and rights
3. Magnatubes – a right hand reef break suitable for intermediate surfers
4. Boneyards – fast, challenging waves….which connects into……
5. Supertubes – is a long section with fast walls, and tube sections
6. Tubes – another section of the point with good, fast and often hollow waves
7. Point – the perfect wave for the less experienced surfers. Excellent peeling mellow waves, with very long rides. Excellent for practising your surfing techniques.
8. Albatross – another uncrowded quality mellow wave
Surfboard hire – You may find it cheaper and more convinient to hire a board in J-bay rather than bring your own. If so we charge £35 a week for surf board hire and we can source the right board for your requirements.

South African Climate
The climate in Jeffrey’s Bay is thought to be one if the most favourable to man because it has the mildest climate in South Africa, and the second mildest climate in the world, after Hawaii (according to the Guinness Book of Records). Temperatures rarely fall below 10°C in winter and rarely climb beyond 28°C in summer. This makes it a great place for a holiday!
May is a great time to visit Jeffrey’s Bay. It is late autumn in South Africa, and this usually means warm sunshine, and warm daytime temperatures, with highs of around 21C. We travel to South Africa in April/May because we consider it to be the best time of year to ensure consistent, clean surf, pleasant water temperatures (around 18C) and typically mostly warm sunny days.
This time of year brings constant swells wrapping into Jeffrey’s Bay, with average wave heights 3-5 ft for around 80% of the month. The water temperature is around 18C, so a 3:2 full wetsuit is adequate for surfing. The winds are also favourable at this time of year, normally there are light to moderate off-shores most of the time. All this adds up to good clean rideable waves, day after day.
