Billabong Rio Pro Girls event concludes

Carissa Moore has won the Billabong Girls Rio Pro, in a hard-fought final against Sally Fitzgibbons, at Barra Da Tijuca. Moore and Fitzgibbons were surfing in 2-4 ft waves. The men’s event has been postponed since the start of the event as the waves were not considered big enough. This is the rather sexist side of the ASP; the men’s events are always held back for the better surf conditions. Hmmm. Anyway the men’s is on today and they have been blessed with 2-4ft waves! Ha ha! Surfing, the sport of future Kings

We love surfing, and now it has the Royal seal of approval too! On Prince William’s stag do, with Harry and 20 other close friends, William is believed to have gone surfing, as well as racing speedboats and water-skiing. The Prince was seen paddling out in Speke’s Mill, Devon. Must be the sport of (future) Kings!

Surfing the ‘Seven Ghosts’ tidal bore

The Rip Curl Search team travels the globe searching out new surf spots, and recently they found an incredible tidal bore that can be surfed at the right stage of tide and time.
Though tidal surges do occur on the Seven Ghosts river in Sumatra, Indonesia, strong surfable waves are extremely rare. The Rip Curl Search team chose the Spring Equinox to maximise their chances of surfing the bore. The team enjoyed chocolate barrels, 6ft waves, and long rides of half an hour! “This has been the most amazing Search trip in 20 years,” Tom Curren said after his groundbreaking river tube ride!
