Kelly Slater to receive the key to Surf City USA

0

On the 21st June 2011 Kelly Slater will be presented with the key to the city of Huntington Beach, Surf City, USA. This ceremonial honour is found in cities across the world and the idea of a key is thought to come from times when cities were walled and gates locked at night or in times of trouble. Those awarded the keys had free movement and could come and go as they please. Nowadays the honour can be a real ceremonial key and a celebration ceremony for the recipient. Kelly Slater is a lucky man as he already has some city keys! He has received the key to the city of his local town, Cocoa Beach, Florida, and that of of San Clemente.

If you want to experience the best waves, in beautiful locations every day you should come on our amazing surf trips! We travel to the best locations at the optimum times to surf on our surfing holidays to South West France and South Africa.
On our France surf holiday we travel to Seignosse, SW France. Our surf camp is nestled under tall pines, close to the beach, and we surf the beast beach breaks along this coast. There are miles of white sandy beaches to sunbathe and surf. It really is a surfers paradise!

On our South Africa surf holiday to Jeffrey’s Bay we surf the legendary point breaks of Jeffrey’s Bay, and stay in a beautiful guest house overlooking the cape with direct access to the beach. Kelly Slater returns to Margaret River

0

Surfing legend Kelly Slater entered the Telstra Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River, Western Australia for the first time since he entered the competition back in 1993.

This ‘Prime’ event on the ASP world tour attracts the top surfers with big prize money. Conditions were tough, with just 2 wave sets, and Slater did just enough to get through to the next round. Mick Fanning scored the day’s top scoring ride with a 9.0.

Margaret River is set to see some big surf right now and the event should get exciting with 20ft sets predicted!  Watch it on live stream at www.asp.com

How fast is a surfer?

0

This question can now be answered by the GPS tracking device that has been used at the 2011 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, in Snapper Rocks, Australia. The fastest surfers so far are Mick Fanning going a stonking 39,1 km/h, with Joel Parkinson going 34,6 km/h and Bede Durbidge going 33,6 km/h, Kelly Slater going 32 km/h.

The GPS device is also tracking the surfers distance travelled, and Joel Parkinson has travelled the furthest overall – 3.99km metres. Fascinating stuff!

ASP ends, big wave wait begins

0

Well it’s all over for the ASP surfing world tour for this year. Kelly Slater won the contest back in Puerto Rico, getting enough points that he could not be beaten, even though the contest had not finished. He actually lost to Jeremy Flores from France in the final in Pipeline, Hawaii.

It was his 10th time of winning the world tour. The next year’s event starts at Snapper Rocks in the Gold Coast in February next year.

There is a big wave event Waimea Bay, Hawaii running now, but because they are waiting for really big waves, they have a long waiting period for the contest; from now till the end of February. If the waves are not big enough (20 foot plus) the event will not run. We are waiting…!
