Fun on Mystery Island

0

It sounds like an episode of Scooby Doo, but it’s actually a reef off Mysteries beach here in Morocco that creates a lovely right hand wave to surf. It is great fun, and has seen many casualties as people take off too close and end up either on the rock or get washed over it! Mainly scraped skin and a bruised ego only!

The surf has been small today and everyone has been able to get some good waves and enjoy and improve their surfing.

We ate out in town last night. Good fun. It’s my last pickup today, after that it’s drop-offs, and fly home. I shall miss the sun and surf, but am looking forward to seeing my wife and small 4 month old son.

Mr Cortez takes a big knock

It seems to be a week of surfboard calamities!!! First Mr Cruz, now Mr Cortez has been struck by a big wave too. When Arran was surfing Mystery Island yesterday morning, and after a partiuclarly gnarly dumpy wave had passed, he noticed Mr C had a very big long crease along the front and the rails. It looks like it won’t last much longer. Poor Mr Cortez!

Arran and I are feeling the loss of our boards. We went out surfing on Panoramas beach break on other boards and just it wasn’t the same! So if you are thinking ‘what shall I get Arran or Lauren for their birthdays in 200?’9, you need not look further than your local surfboard supplier and ask if they do any ’Spanish Boards’, as we’ve come to call them!

Yesterday the wind dropped right off and the sea was glassy once more. We got up early for the dawny. Mystery Island was working on the small swell; chest high and glassy. Malc had some great waves, and avoided the rocks!!

It was another day of wall-to-wall sunshine. After breakfast some of the crew surfed Anchors.

After lunch al-fresco we headed for the weekly market at Banana village. It was a relaxed market with mounds of fresh produce; mouth-watering herbs, fruit and vegetables. It’s a really easy place to shop. Boys all around the market sell you carrier bags for 1Dhiram each. Each stall owner hands you a washing up bowl and you chose your produce, then they weigh it on those old-fashioned iron scales with kilo weights. We bought what looked like a weeks worth of veggies. Malc accompanied us and helped us by carrying our bags and making sure that the things in Dan’s backpack weren’t pilfered!

Later we stopped in Agadir for the usual order of slabs of beer from the Uniprix – we looked like the traditional Brits abroad carrying loads of beer from the supermarket and were quite relieved we had black carrier bags to hide our alcohol shame. We snuck home to drink them :)
