If you like quiet surf breaks you’ll love surfing Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa. Not only are there amazing surf breaks suitable for all abilities, but the breaks aren’t busy either.

One of the problems with surfing Fistral or Watergate Bay in the holidays, or any popular surf spot anywhere in the world, like Anchor Point in Morocco – they are just so busy! The shorelines are dotted with surf schools and out back you are fighting for waves with all the rest! Jeffrey’s Bay is different. We have had the breaks to ourselves most mornings. 4 has been a crowd! The locals are super-friendly too! It really is worth travelling that bit further to a spot like Jeffrey’s Bay to experience such great waves and uncrowded surf. So here we are, enjoying it!

It’s been great waves here so far. With waves around 1-3ft at the beach break we are surfing, our surfers are getting some great waves and learning loads! The point has also delivered some fantastic waves for learning and improving your surfing. The waves at point are peeling for 100m plus! That means plenty of time to practise riding the face, turning your board, and other more complex manoeuvres. You can have fun on these waves whatever your ability – check out this surfer performing a ‘floater’ on top of the wave.

Temperatures are staying warm too – around 20C and are predicted to rise near to 30C again by next week! New bigger swell is expected for the weekend and then dropping back down to smaller waves again for next week. Great!

Dan and Mark, our super surf-coaches and surf holiday tour guides have landed safely in South Africa for the start of their 3 week surf holiday. The are heading for Jeffrey’s Bay and have one more plane to catch today from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth, on the Eastern Cape. They should arrive about tea-time to a warm and sunny Jeffrey’s Bay, with temperatures of around 22C and some nice clean swell to surf!! Monday in Jeffrey’s Bay is looking like a scorcher with temperatures expected to reach 30C! Wow! To come on our next surfing holiday to Jeffery’s Bay South Africa, home of the legendary point-break waves, see our South Africa page, or drop us a line for more information – info@globalsurfadventures.co.uk

Carissa Moore has won the Billabong Girls Rio Pro, in a hard-fought final against Sally Fitzgibbons, at Barra Da Tijuca. Moore and Fitzgibbons were surfing in 2-4 ft waves. The men’s event has been postponed since the start of the event as the waves were not considered big enough. This is the rather sexist side of the ASP; the men’s events are always held back for the better surf conditions. Hmmm. Anyway the men’s is on today and they have been blessed with 2-4ft waves! Ha ha! Watch it live on the ASP website

Our guided surf holidays

If you want to experience the best waves, in beautiful locations every day you should come on our amazing surf trips! We travel to the best locations at the optimum times to surf on our surfing holidays to South West France and South Africa.
On our France surf holiday we travel to Seignosse, SW France. Our surf camp is nestled under tall pines, close to the beach, and we surf the beast beach breaks along this coast. There are miles of white sandy beaches to sunbathe and surf. It really is a surfers paradise!

On our South Africa surf holiday to Jeffrey’s Bay we surf the legendary point breaks of Jeffrey’s Bay, and stay in a beautiful guest house overlooking the cape with direct access to the beach. The surf is so good here they made a film about it – twice! See the Endless Summer films for all the amazing footage of surfing in South Africa. See our surf trips holiday pages for more information about our France surf holiday and our South Africa Surf holiday. If you have any questions we are happy to help – please ask.

This is great news for surfers coming to our France Surf Holiday in September. Just collect points doing your normal shopping at many stores like Sainsburys, BP and more, and use them as money-off your flights to Biarritz, France. If you start collecting now you could gain enough points for a free flight! Fantastic!
EasyJet flies direct to Biarritz from London Gatwick every day, prices are around £50 return during September. We include airport transfers in the price of your holiday. so it couldn’t be easier to save money and have a great holiday!

If you want to experience the best waves, in beautiful locations every day you should come on our surfing holidays! We travel to the best locations at the optimum times to surf on our surfing holidays to SW France and South Africa. On our France surf holiday we travel to Seignosse, SW France. We camp under tall pines and surf the beast beach breaks along this coast. There are miles of white sandy beaches to sunbathe and surf. It really is a surfers paradise! On our South Africa surf holiday to Jeffrey’s Bay we surf the legendary point breaks of Jeffrey’s Bay. The surf is so good here they made a film about it – twice! See the Endless Summer films for all the amazing footage of surfing in South Africa. See our holiday pages for more information about our France surf holiday and our South Africa Surf holiday. If you have any questions we are happy to help – please ask.

We thought as the surf is flat we could write a few articles on how to surf. Obviously we can’t teach you to surf in just a few words, but we can tell you about the basics, which you can put into practise when the surf is up.

Before you try surfing you should be fairly fit. Sounds obvious, but surfing involves all your muscles, stamina, and agility. You need to be mentally fit too. In the water you need to make quick decisions about what to do next, in order to get your wave, and stay safe.

Running, cycling, swimming and any form of resistance work are all great ways to build up your fitness and paddling muscles for surfing. Yoga is great for balance and flexibility. Advice from all our surf coaches is that you should be able to swim at least 50 metres in open water.

On all our surf holidays to France and South Africa we can teach you more about fitness for surfing.
